Nagato Uzumaki by JadeDeng

Just another night
And I'm staring at the moon
I saw a shooting star
And I thought of you

The figure lay on the ground, back pressed against damp grass. Her gaze cast toward the illuminated heavens that hung above, captivated by the brilliance they emitted in the dark. The moon was aligned perfectly that night, its rays shone as bright as the sun. Stars twinkled, like lights upon a christmas tree.

I sang a lullaby
By the waterside and knew
If you were here
I'd sing to you

A shallow sigh escaped her thin lips, images and moments resurfacing in her mind. The stars seemed to have dimmed from the past, for the person from her memories was not there. Her hand reached up, as if trying to feel his presence. The depths of her mind reaching for the remnants of parchment inscribed upon.

Your're on the other side
As the skyline splits in two
I'm miles away from seeing you

He would have loved to be here now, she thought. Almost seeing his red hair flutter in the wind as the orbs of his purple hues stared at each ripple in the crystallized river. But he will never. The mirage vanished as fast as it came. He.. he was in a different world now, one as far away as the distance between her and the stars.

I can see the stars
From America
I wonder
Can you see them too?

The drizzle started up again, thin rivulets of rain slipping through the cracks in the clouds. The constellations remain undisturbed, though her vision blurred when water fell into her eyes. If they are completely visible now, does that mean you could see them too? Wherever you're at?

So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me

I wonder.. are we looking at the same sky right now? She couldn't fathom if it were the rain or her tears clouding her eyes. Drenched clothes stuck to skin, though she lay motionless nevertheless. Her body limp with exhaustion, mind weary with the sound of raindrops drowning her woes.

And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
That all of these stars will
Guide us home

So close... Yet so far. The images mere dreams never to be reality, an utopia that had existed only in the minds of the wishful.
....................................................................................................................................

It was a night much like the present. A girl leaned against the pillars of the patio, knees hugged to her chest. The sound of raindrops shattering as they collided with hard earth echoed in her ears.

I can hear your heart
On the radio beat
They're playing 'Chasing Cars'
And I thought of us

"You're going to get sick if you sit in the rain." The voice was gentle, like one of the few who truly cared. She looked over her shoulder, glancing blankly at the boy who had known her all her life. A slight smile tugged at her lips as he sat down beside her, handing her a cup of hot chocolate.

Back to the time
You were lying next to me
I looked across and fell in love

"What are you looking at?" Nagato asked, trying to follow her gaze, of which proved impossible. For she seemed to be staring into space.

"The stars." Was her simple reply.

One glance at the sky contradicted her statement, as it was a blank dark abyss. The specks of glitter that were once present on the canvas had disappeared into oblivion.

So I took your hand
Back through lamp lit streets
I knew
Everything led back to you

"I don't see any stars.." He strayed off.

"'The stars are there, even if you can't see them... they're still there. Never are they truly gone. There is always someone to remember." Her voice dosed with melancholy as she sipped the warm beverage, so fast it burned her tongue.

So can you see the stars
Over Amsterdam
You're the song my heart is
Beating to

The rare curve of his lips rewarded her eyes, before being replaced by a frown.

"Nagato..." Her throat closed up around the words.

"Will you... will you remember us, then? Even if we're gone?" His purple orbs squeezed shut, almost painfully.

So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me

"Don't say that, Nagato-"

"No. There will be a time, when none of us is with you... Akatsuki, Konan, Yahiko..." He continued as if she hadn't spoke, "Will you still remember us then? Will you remember...me?"

She pondered the words in her mind, before a chuckle escaped her lips. He stared at her with wide eyes. When their gazes met, her's had visibly softened.

"Not that again, Nagato." A sad smile adorned her visage, "When that time comes... I will remember.

I will remember you, Konan, Yahiko, and the rest.. Like the stars, I guess. Even when you're not seen, doesn't mean you aren't there.." Trailing off as a hopeful smile tugged at her lips, she turned to face him once more.

And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home
.............................................................................................................................................................

So tell me, Nagato. Are you still there? I meant every word I said to you back then. She could almost feel the cup of hot cocoa in her hand, as she strolled down memory lane.

I can see the stars
From America

I wonder
Do you see them too?
The song 'All of the Stars' belongs to Ed Sheeran.
Well. There you have it! I finally got this done. Hope you liked it.

That was very well written, really a beautiful piece! Excellent job, and fantastic use of the song as well, many song fics don't do it as well as you have here. I liked how your interpretation of the song wasn't so obvious either if you know what I mean; you didn't take each line and match it literally, but figuratively in many cases. Really, really well done ^_^
What fandom is this from? If I offered anything for critique, it would be to maybe sort of explain just slightly why he would die before her (unless this is an essential from the fandom haha). It seems a little odd, y'know, and why he would ever want her to forget him.
